Setup process and fee
explanation |
|
|
In order for your customer
to be able to download a vendor neutral file from your site, we will need to create
this file from either existing company data or manually. Certainly the more
information we can collect and automatically include in the library, the easier
this setup process is. At its most basic we need to collect at least the correct
footprint information required to create your packages in a PCB design tool, and
enough information about each of your components to create a symbol(s) that contains
at least a description of each pins function and the type of pin that is being used. |
|
|
We can generally collect footprint
data from several different sources. For instance, if all of your footprints
are based on Jedec packages, we can use these names as a basis to describe the footprint.
Since our internal library has most if not all of the current Jedec parts in it,
no other effort would be involved except the customizations you might have from
the Jedec standard. On the other hand, we have a team able to read your spec
sheets and manually enter the parametrics we require to describe your footprints.
The parametrics include the size of the body, the extent of the pins, the size of
the contact area for each pin, etc. |
|
|
Symbol data is generally easier
to collect. We can use ASCII format descriptions of the pins data, IBIS models, spreadsheets
containing the pin data, or have a team capable of scraping the data from a spec
sheet. We also have specialized internal tools for Acrobat PDF file scraping,
which often makes this manual process faster and more accurate. |
|
|
In the above steps, all hand
entry work is checked by means of a dual entry system and comparison afterward.
All work is reviewed by skilled librarians for completeness and correctness. |
|
|
After we have all of the data
we require to create your components, we will enter them into a Vendor Neutral File
format, and then provide you with a printout or database of each component for validataion.
Once everyone agrees that the VNF properly represents the component, it can be placed
on your website for download. |
|
|
An alternative to the above
is for you to generate the required information, using a combination of our tools
and your own internal tools and then generating the VNF set after completing the
data gathering process. Even if we provide the service, you may want to have
the ability to create the VNF files for yourself moving forward. Training
and tools are availble to help in this process. |
|
|
Our setup fee is based on how
much of the above process we need to accomplish, how much of the above work can
be automated, and how many components, footprints and symbols need to be dealt with.
Additionally, any changes from our normal spec for building VNF's could add cost.
The cost of creating the VNF's will vary considerably from company to company
depending on the amount of data available, the standards we need to meet, and the
quantity of parts we need to build. |
